Good things take time.
Lessons on leaning into discomfort to find a way forward, without compromise.
Yesterday it was 5 years ago
Since my husband and I got the key
To our own house.
It took us 2.5 years
To come to a place of agreement.
2.5 years....!
I don't mean that it took that long
To complete the sale and refurbish.
No, no.
It took us 2.5 years to agree
On buying in the first place,
On what type of place to buy,
And on how much to spend.
Long talks
Tears sometimes (mine)
Not feeling supported (him)
Frustration (both).
Gosh it took a long time.
And I'm telling you this
Because just sharing a photo
Of the joyous moment
When we first turned the key
To open the door to our own home,
Is so misleading.
May this story show you how
To lean into discomfort.
May it bring you a way forward
And shine a light of hope.
To come to a place of true alignment
Can be tricky.
It takes time.
The risk is to compromise
And end up with something
You don't really want.
How to respect
Your own wishes and values?
In our case, gosh they clashed!
My husband wanted safety,
The security of a place to call home,
A wise financial situation,
A place to find calm and stillness.
I wanted to travel,
To spend more time together,
To be in spiritual places,
To feel deeply connected with life.
I thought he was too rigid.
He thought I was too much of a hippie.
We clashed
We talked
We listened
We visited houses
We shared our fears
We kissed
We clashed again.
It was hard.
It took time.
How to align our wishes?
How to both stay true to ourselves?
We tried not to judge each other
But aimed to understand.
We asked more questions
While we knew
We would not like the answers.
We never stopped caring.
We wanted to find a way.
Our efforts were worth it.
We bought our own house.
We both absolutely love the place.
And 1.5 years later
We went on a spiritual sabbatical.
I'm telling you this
To say that it's possible
To find a path
That is not a compromise.
It's a place of deep connection.
The key is to talk
On a deeper level.
Not about house or no house,
Travel or no travel.
The solution is not at the binary level.
It's not a choice between this or that.
It's about finding common ground.
The thing you both share,
Below the surface of the external issue.
My invitation to you
Regarding the challenge
You're currently facing
Is to find the deeper level:
What is it really about?
What do you truly long for?
What's the essence?
May you find the key
To get unstuck and
Move forward in life.
And when you can do
With a little help,
We'll arrange a free Discovery Call.
With love,
Karin
