The magic of loving kindness mantras.
Repeat after me “I choose kindness”.
It’s World Kindness Day
Let us all practice loving-kindness,
Today and every day.
For ourselves, others and the world.
Let's begin by investigating
How kind we are in our own self-talk.
And specifically the powerful role mantras
Can play in transforming negative thoughts.
When I say mantras I don't mean
Standing in front of the mirror
Saying how awesome you are.
Although, please do,
If that takes your fancy :)
What do we mean then, by mantras?
Is it a matter of finding a lovely phrase
And repeating it?
For me there is a difference
Between spiritual
And psychological mantras.
Let me explain:
“I’m sharing loving-kindness with all I encounter.”
Today’s Mantra - World Kindness Day
Psychological mantras
Are more like positive beliefs.
It's an encouraging phrase, quote or advice
That aims to transform our thoughts
And make us feel better about ourselves.
For example the affirmation
"I am good enough",
(Instead of "I am a failure"),
"My body is sacred",
(Instead of "I am fat"),
Or "I did the best I could",
(Instead of "It's my fault") .
For those who want to formulate their own personal affirmation,
As part of my online coaching course Coming Home
I teach you how to transform your most stubborn, negative beliefs
Into wholesome, positive ones.
Spiritual mantras* are different.
They are ancient, sacred sounds
Like a syllable, word, or verse.
They are typically melodic
And even mathematically structured.
When chanted they create
A reverberation which helps
The body and mind to be calm.
Some believe that specific mantras
Are a tool for the mind to develop qualities
To bring greater compassion,
Better clarity or deeper understanding.
At the very least,
They are musically very uplifting.
"May all beings be happy
May all beings be safe
May all beings be healthy
May all beings live with ease
And be a source of healing for this world."
